Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about using Urbex Planet
How does Urbex Planet work?
Urbex Planet is a community-driven map and discussion space for urban exploration. Members add pins for locations (with descriptions, media, and status), others upvote/downvote, comment, and help keep details current. You can filter the map, search pins/users/coordinates, chat in real time, and manage your profile and preferences. Editors and admins help moderate content for safety and quality.
Do I need an account to use the map?
Browsing some content may work without an account, but creating pins, voting, chatting, or accessing certain features requires signing in. Profiles include visibility controls so you decide what to share.
Is urban exploration safe/legal?
Urban exploration involves risk and legal considerations. Always follow local laws, respect property, and prioritize safety. Information on the site is community-sourced and may be incomplete or outdated — use your judgment and be responsible. See our Terms for more.
What types of locations are allowed?
We welcome a broad range of urban exploration points of interest (abandoned sites, industrial, historic, unusual structures). Avoid posting sensitive personal data or content that encourages harm. Editors may adjust metadata or remove harmful content.
How are duplicates or bad pins handled?
The platform includes tools to detect potential duplicates and workflows for editors to review them. Users can report issues, and moderators will triage and fix or remove pins as needed.
What data do you collect?
We collect the minimum data needed to operate the platform and fight abuse — account basics, usage metadata, and security logs. You control profile visibility for joined date, last active, timezone, and stats. We do not use third‑party ad trackers. See the Privacy Policy.
Who can see my pin? What do the visibility settings mean?
Pins have four visibility levels. The default is Members. You can change this anytime in the pin editor.
- Public: Visible to everyone (no account required). Shows on public lists and category pages; can be indexed by search engines.
- Members: Only signed‑in, approved members can view. Hidden from public/category pages and search engines.
- Verified: Only verified explorers, plus editors/admins and the owner.
- Private: Only you (owner).
Notes: Only Public pins appear in category pages and our sitemap. Media, comments, and votes inherit the pin’s visibility. Changing visibility updates access immediately.

What is the “Verified” rank?
Verified is an exclusive, trust‑earned rank. It’s granted to veteran members and proven, seasoned urbexers who consistently follow all rules and help preserve places. Verified users may access the most untouched and exclusive pins on Urbex Planet.
You can still submit pins with visibility set to Verified even if you’re not Verified. In that case, the pin essentially acts like a private pin for you, but it’s also viewable by Verified veterans and site admins. Sharing high‑quality, exclusive locations responsibly with senior members can help you earn respect in the community.
Verification is by invitation only and based on sustained positive involvement and contributions — please do not ask to become verified.
How is content moderated?
Editors and admins review reports, adjust metadata, and remove harmful content. We use rate limits, city/IP bans, and logging to prevent abuse and keep the community healthy.
