Leaf Rapids is a dying community with a population of about 200 people that is about 90% abandoned. With a peak population of about 2,500 residents, it makes so that Leaf Rapids is one of the largest ghost towns in North America.
The town has been losing population since 1981, but in 2002 a major blow to the town would happen when the Ruttan Mine permanently closed and was abandoned. Since then, the town has been in a rapid population free-fall that doesn't look like will stop anytime soon.
Despite that, somehow the Leaf Rapids Town Centre Complex shopping mall still remains open and hasn't closed yet.

Picher, Oklahoma is one of if not THE most well known abandoned towns in the USA. First established as a lead mining community, decades of unregulated mining lead to piles of lead covering the surface of Picher. This lead would blow in the wind, making the town of Picher extremely toxic. Environmental concerns would be raised after most of the children in the town were found to have lead poisoning, leading to the creation of the Tar Creek Superfund Site, which encompasses the former city of Picher, alongside with many nearby communities such as Cardin and Treece.
By the 2000s, the vast majority of the town was abandoned, but the final blow was in 2008 when the Picher-Neosho EF4 tornado struck, an extremely violent tornado that would kill 21 people directly. After decades of decline due to the pollution, the tornado was the final straw, with the town dissolving as a town in 2009. As of 2019, 0 people live in the former city of Picher, making it completely abandoned.
