Urban exploration is more than adventure, it's a commitment to discovery with care and integrity. Below is our shared code on Urbex Planet (inspired by the timeless urbex principles, adapted for our worldwide community):
- 1. Never explore alone. Tell someone your location and expected return time. A buddy system saves lives.
- 2. Take only photos, leave only footprints. No souvenirs, no graffiti, no damage. Leave every site better (or exactly) as you found it.
- 3. Dress and gear up properly: Sturdy boots, long pants, gloves, flashlight (plus backup), mask (asbestos/mold), first-aid kit, fully charged phone.
- 4. Know your limits. Unstable floors, heights, wildlife, chemicals, if something feels wrong, bail. Trust your gut feeling.
- 5. Be polite to everyone. Security, police, locals, other explorers. Kindness and giving a good explanation can go a long way.
- 6. Get permission when possible. Abandoned doesn’t mean ownerless. Legal tours or written consent = zero stress.
- 7. Protect the sites. Don’t post exact locations publicly, it invites vandals and demolition.
Above and beyond all: Safety first, always. One stupid move can get a beautiful ruin bulldozed. Let’s not be the culprit.
If you have your own safety tips to share with the community, you can reply to the thread :)
