Hidden in Lighthouse Park at Point Atkinson, this rusty WWII-era searchlight bunker and coastal battery remnants were installed in the early 1940s as part of Vancouver’s harbor defenses.
Equipped with powerful searchlights and examination guns to monitor ships entering Burrard Inlet and protect against enemy raids, the site formed a key link in the Lower Mainland coastal defense network alongside the nearby Point Atkinson Lighthouse (now a National Historic Site).
Long abandoned after the war, the D-shaped concrete bunker clings to the granite cliffs on the east beach, now covered in vibrant graffiti, with epic views of the Vancouver skyline and inlet.
A secret military history gem tucked among old growth forest trails in this popular West Coast park!
